Tourist village Nowgam lies at a distance of 97 km from Srinagar city is well connected to Srinagar by road.

Little is known about the natural splendid beauty of Kupwara for those who visit Kashmir. As such it has remained one of the hidden treasures of Kashmir for the outside world. Those who managed to see it admire its heavenly picturesque and conducive climate. The district Kupwara was carved out of erstwhile Baramulla District in July 1979. The population of Kupwara district as per population census of 200I stands 6.50 lakh comprising 3.32 lakh males and 3.08 females. The district is spread over 361 inhabited villages. The geographical area of the district stands as 2379 sq kms. This district touches in the east and south with bararnulla district and in the west and north by LOC. It is at a distance of 90 kms from Srinagar in the north-west corner of Kashmir valley.

The district is located at 34.3 degrees to 35.5 degrees longitude in the north and 73.4 to 74.9 degree longitude in the cast.This district is situated at an altitude of 5300 it (above sea level) with varied and serene topography, the western, northern and eastern areas of the district are plain and the rest is hilly.
