Geographic Location

Kupwara district is full of eye-catching green meadows and mountains. Its hill-sides lend a charming look to the entire district. Zig-zag roads and serpentine rivers criss-crossing different valleys of this far-flung district, make the landscape even more fascinating. The most impartant places in Kupwara which have got  the immediate attention to hit the state tourism list include Bangus Valley, Lolab Valley, Keran Valley and Machil Valley. The plains, pastures, meadows, mountains and the rivers with pristine waters are attractive enough to fascinate the fancy of local as well as foreign tourists.

In north of Kupwara, is the Lolab Valley which is a famed valley even praised by the poet of East, Allama Iqbal during his visit. He says:

Panee Taray Chishmoun Ka Tadapta Houa Saemab….Aae Wadeyay Lolab, Aae Wadeyay Lolab: Murgani Kafas Tare Fazawoun Main Hai Baetab… Aae Wadeyay Lolab, Aae Wadeyay Lolab.



Machil and Keran valleys are also very interesting places that need to be developed as the tourist places in the district. Keran Valley is located on the banks of the sacred river _ Kishan Ganga which is also known as river Neelam. In the East of Kupwara is Machil which also offers some interesting places for the enhancement of the tourist destinations in the valley. The district is located at 34.3 degrees to 35.5 degrees longitude in the north and 73.4 to 74.9 degree longitude in the east.This district is situated at an altitude of 5300 it (above sea level) with varied and serene topography, the western, northern and eastern areas of the district are plain and the rest is hilly.

The road to Mawar passes through the pine trees and the village is located on both sides of nahallah Mawar. The tourist village Mawar is bestowed by nature with rich scenic beauty as a large lush green meadows. Surrounded by pine tress on all sides. The famous nahallah Mawar with crystal clear water divides village in two parts. making a natural spot. The snow peaked mountains , oozing springs and  lush green grass and dense forests provides great attraction.
