Kangan is a Tehsil in Ganderbal District of Jammu & Kashmir State, India. Kangan Tehsil Head Quarters is Kangan town . It is located 16 KM towards East from District head quarters Ganderbal. 25 KM from State capital Srinagar, Jammu towards South. Kangan Tehsil is bounded by by Ganderbal Tehsil towards west , Sumbal Tehsil towards East , Gurez Tehsil towards North , Lar Tehsil towards west . Kangan consist of 44 Villages, having population of 1,20,934 souls as per 2011 cencus. It is in the 1592 m elevation(altitude) .
Baba Nagri is a shrine situated at the base of a mountain in a scenic setting near Kangan. Every year around 60 to 80 thousand people from Poonch, Rajouri, Kathua, Doda, Shopian, Bandipora, Baramulla and other districts, as well as from other parts of the country congregate here for the annual Urs of Hazrat Baba Jee Sahib Larwi (RA). Baba Jee, who originally belonged to Kashmir had migrated to Hazara Division of Khyber Pakhtunwa in Pakistan during the late 19th century. He was mentored by another Sufi Saint Hazrat Nizam-ud-Din Wali Kiyanawi (RA). Later he was asked to return to Baba Nagri in Kashmir and preach Islam at the place. He lived and preached here for the next 33 years, and laid to rest in the shrine. He was from Naqashbandi legacy.
Baba Jee also wrote some Islamic books including Asrar-e-Kabaree and Malfoozat-e-Nizame on Fiqah and Tasawuf. After Baba Jee's death his son, Hazrat Mian Nizam-ud-Din carried forward his legacy. The shrine attracts followers across religions. Pilgrims believe their wishes are granted at the shrine. They also tie votives at the shrine seeking fulfillment of their wishes.
