Showcasing the heritage tourism potential of the beautiful village of Naranag in northern Kashmir, India
Gangabal Lake is situated on the northern side of Srinagar. This lake is on the north-eastern slopes of the Harmukh Mountain. It is about 2km long and 1km wide. Its beauty lies in its location at the foot of Harmukh glacier.
The lake is also called Uttar Ganga, the Harmukhat and the Har Mukt Ganga. This lake has a very exalted place in Hindu texts. The ashes of the dead are immersed in this lake in September. This Lake is about 19kms trek uphill from Naranag and plays an important role as pilgrim spot for Hindus and also for trekking during summer season.
